Newsletter 9/5/17

Rehearsals and Performances:

• Friday, 9/8/17 Rehearsal and Football halftime show at LC – Itinerary will be posted.
• Saturday 9/9/17 rehearsal time changed to 10:00am – 2:00pm. Lunch will be at noon.
• Saturday 9/16/17 rehearsal and Lawrence Central Invitational – ALL DAY.

Apparel Orders:

• There was a printing error on the red What’s in a Name show shirts in the last apparel order. These items are being re-ordered. All MPLT (non-show-shirt) apparel will be available for pick-up at LC – contact Sue Felli at suzannefelli.
• Place your MPLT apparel orders online. The third and final order will be placed on September 26th.

Volunteers:

• Chaperones: Any parent who would like to chaperone for the 2017 marching band season will need to attend ONE mandatory meeting. Dates are:

• Thursday, September 7, 7:30 pm or Saturday, September 9, 10:00 am
• Meetings will begin in the Hall of Fame inside door 11 at LC and move to another location in the building if needed. Please be on time!
• If you would like to volunteer to chaperone, but cannot attend one of the meetings, you must contact Amy Svendsen (317-294-6559) or Kaye Schoenling (317-709-0039) before September 11 in order to receive information about how to apply. Late applications will not be accepted due to scheduling considerations.

• Uniforms: The uniform committee needs at least 3 parents to sign up per show for uniform prep, final check of dressed marchers, getting hair up in shakos, and checking everyone back in after shows.
  • Also needed: 3 parents per show to commit to taking home unitards for washing and returning them to uniform room / mom.
  • Please contact Dawn Schuchman at dschuchman if you can help.

• More volunteers are always needed from both schools for all events and committees. How can you get involved?

Meal Plan:

• The SignUp for Meal Plan has been updated for September and October. Please note that all meals are subject to change as itineraries become available.

  • This week’s meal is Sloppy Joes and corn on the cob (Thanks My Dad’s Corn!!), there will be a vegetarian option.
  • Help is needed shucking corn and halving ears on Thursday night. (Bring your favorite tools!) Contact Lynn Hardman with questions.

Fan Club & Fundraising:

• Fan Club: Thursday evening rehearsals are Fan Club Nights. Parents are encouraged to come and watch the band’s progress and catch up with fellow parents. Rehearsals will continue to be in the practice lot until the stadium opens.

• MPLT Window Clings: Car window clings are available for sale for $5.

• O’Charley’s Fan Club Events: Eat at O’Charley’s (75th and Shadeland) on football performance or competition days, wear your What’s in a Name show shirt, and you’ll receive 10% off your meal!
  • Purchase O’Charley’s ScripNow before you go, and add the 13% rebate to your student account!!

• Hayride: Save the date! The annual MPLT Hayride will be on October 11, at Stonycreek Farm in Noblesville after rehearsal.

Lawrence Central Marching Band Invitational:

• Saturday, 9/16/17
  • This is a contest/fundraiser that provides a performance opportunity for the participating bands and a venue for our band to put on an exhibition of their show, giving them a full dress rehearsal with audience exposure and judges critique.
  • LC Volunteer Information: You should have been contacted about your volunteer shift for the Invitational (this does not apply to LN). We need all LC marching band parents to volunteer for a successful event. Please e-mail lcpaavolunteers or text (317) 694-7674 to inform the Volunteer Coordinators whether you can do the afternoon or evening shift. This is one of our department’s largest fundraisers and helps to fund marching band, winter percussion & winter guard, as well as other LCPAA performing arts.
  • MPLT Volunteer Information: Any LC or LN parent who volunteers for a shift at the Invitational can watch the event for free (the admission fee for the LC Invitational is $7 per person). Volunteers will be able to watch the Marching Pride perform. Please e-mail lcpaavolunteers or text (317) 694-7674, if you can help.
  • Hospitality: We need 20 dozen home baked cookies, bars, or desserts to serve to the judges, directors and other guests of our event. Our Invitational is highly regarded for the quality of the meals we offer and especially the delicious desserts. Please sign up here: 2017 MPLT Meal Plan and More, to bake for the LC Invitational.

Photo Day:

• MPLT Photos will be taken on Thursday, September 28. More information and the order form will be forwarded soon.

Activity Bus:

• Activity buses operate Monday through Thursday leaving at 7pm from LC door 11 (and LN door 4 when rehearsal is there). MPLT students will be able to ride after Monday and Tuesday rehearsals.
  • You must complete this short survey to be placed on the Activity Bus roster.

Student Account Payments:

• Outstanding balances should be no more than $200 (after August payment), unless specified in your payment plan.
• All payments will be made to your home school’s booster organization:

Itinerary
Friday, September 1st
LN vs LC Football Game

4:30pm Rehearsal at LN!!
5:15pm Rehearsal Ends. Dinner provided by MPLT Meal Plan. Change into your show shirt and khaki shorts.
6:15pm Be in arcs outside band room doors to march over to the stadium.
6:48pm Pregame in East end zone. We will remain in the east end zone for the first quarter.
7:00pm Kickoff. We will play in the East end zone during the first quarter, warm-up during the second quarter, and perform halftime. We will not return to the game as a group after halftime!
9:00pm Approximate dismissal time from LN Band room. We will dismiss together as a group once everything is loaded.

REMINDERS:

1. You are responsible for your OWN equipment!
2. The daily after school rehearsal shuttle bus will run on Friday from LC to LN. Parents will need to pick up FROM LN!
3. If your equipment went on the Semi after Tuesday 8/29 rehearsal, it needs to be loaded BY YOU on the semi after the game! No one will do this for you!
4. If your instrument did not get loaded on the semi, you are responsible for getting it back to LC for Tuesday 8/5 rehearsal.
5. If you decide to return to the game after dismissal, you will need to take all equipment with you. The band room will be locked after dismissal.

WHAT TO WEAR:

1. Color Guard will wear 2017 MPLT Show Shirt and black shorts.
2. Winds and percussion will wear 2017 MPLT Show Shirt and khaki shorts.

Parents,

MPLT will be performing for the Stadium Dedication at LC and LN tonight! We have also been asked by administration to perform in the stands for the first two quarters with a dismissal before half time of each game. Each school will provide dinner for the students. See the revised itinerary here.

Additionally, MPLT has been asked to be the WTHR Channel 13 band of the week! Channel 13 will be broadcasting the band during our normally scheduled Friday after school rehearsal!! Tune in to see these awesome students perform live on TV during their 5-6pm broadcast.

Rehearsal on Saturday 8/26 will be from 2pm-8pm.

Parents,

We have been given the opportunity to perform as part of the stadium dedications for each school on 8/25! We have also been asked by administration to perform in the stands for the first two quarters with a dismissal before half time of each game. Each school will provide dinner for the students. Color Run Saturday August 19th 2017

Hello Runners!
We are a day away from our 1st annual Marching Pride of Lawrence Township My School Color Run. Before you head out, here is some helpful information we wanted to pass along.

1.) T-shirt pick up is in the Hall of Fame at LC (door11) on Friday evening after practice. You can pick up your race bib and t-shirt. Color packets will be handed out at the finish line. MPLT’s family members can also pick up their shirts at this time.

2.) TURN IN YOUR PLEDGES to your performing arts office. (Make sure that the money matches what is written on the envelope!)

3.) Race registration/check in begins at 7:30 am. Race starts at 9:00 am.

4.) Free parking is available at the Finance Center off of Herbert Lord Road. There will be no parking in Lawrence Park during the race. Please do not park at the Community Center off of Franklin Road as there is another event there and the parking lot will be needed for that event. Thanks for your understanding.

If you are dropping off your student at the Park, please drive down Herbert Lord Road (off of 56th Street). Turn into the first driveway on the left for the Finance Center. You can proceed as far south as you can go and let your child out in the parking lot. They will need to cross the street to the park. There will be officers or volunteers to help direct traffic.

5.) There is a water stop about ½ way through the course.

6.) Dippin Dots, Kona Ice and Oh My Spud (baked potatoes) food trucks will be present to sell their tasty food. Bring some cash so you can cool off after the race or have an early lunch.

7.) At the end of the race, we will have a color celebration where you will throw your colored powder packet in the air. You will receive your color packet at the end of the race.

8.) There are no pets or strollers on the race course please.

9.) My School Color Run is all about the fun. So plan on getting messy. Plan ahead and bring a towel or something to protect your vehicle while traveling home. Wear clothing that you don’t mind getting dirty.

• Our school district has a program that provides a "Supper" to any students who request it for any after school activities. Supper consists of a protein, grain, veggie and fruit option.
  • Contact Sue Felli at suzannefelli or 317-694-7674 to sign your student up for this program. Please list which days your student will need a supper.
  • Students will pick up their supper directly from the cafeteria at their home school. LN students; take your supper to the band hall to await the shuttle – do not eat in the cafeteria! (DO NOT leave trash!)

Shuttle Busses & Pick Up:

• The after school shuttle bus for LN students will leave from LN door 16 at 4pm for all Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday rehearsals. Parents will always pick up from LC at the end of rehearsal – there is no return shuttle to LN. (If rehearsals are at LN, the shuttle will run from LC to LN, leaving from door 11, and you will pick up from LN.)
• On Thursdays, students have the option of riding their regular bus home and meeting back at LC at 6:15PM in time for the 6:30PM rehearsal, or taking the shuttle directly to LC and waiting in a supervised room for the rehearsal. Meals are the student’s responsibility.
• Please keep our students safe! When picking up your students after rehearsals, please pull into a designated parking spot before leaving your vehicle. Do not park in the traffic lanes or block traffic.
• LN Color Guard members are encouraged to be dropped off at LC for the G1 guard class. There is a shuttle bus to LN after class. Alternately, they can ride the normal shuttle from LN to LC which leaves from LN door 4 at the start of the school day.
• Information about evening Activity Busses will come soon.

  • Cards are available in both Performing Arts offices, or contact Jen Jansen.
  • jjbean3030 or (317) 999-7706. Jen will be available at Fan Club nights, every Thursday evening rehearsal.

• Fan Club: Thursday evening rehearsals are Fan Club Nights. Parents are encouraged to come and watch the band’s progress and catch up with fellow parents. Rehearsals will continue to be in the practice lot until the stadium opens.

Apparel Orders:

• All MPLT apparel orders will be placed online this year. The third and final order will be placed on September 26th.
