Attention MPLT families, 2018 Band Camp is just around the corner!

Why is Band Camp important?
Band Camp sets the foundation for the season and is critical to students success.

Band Camp is the perfect opportunity for you to get involved, learn about
the marching activity and be a part of setting the Band up for success.

What does this mean for you?
Your support is required…
The Band will do their part to perfect the basics needed to perform their best,
every single day during the marching season…

How will you do your part?
Parents and Families, you are needed to fill many of the Volunteer opportunities available!

There are Hundreds of volunteer hours and positions available!
Please check your calendars, follow the link, and sign up to help today!

Detailed descriptions of each Volunteer Opportunity are included,
so please read carefully and find something that is the right fit for your schedule.
There are also opportunities for donations which will be needed during camp and throughout the season.
Donations may be dropped off at registration and during the week of camp.
Donations are tax deductible.

TAG DAY 6/30/2018

1. MPLT performers will visit local businesses and request donations from their customers, who will then receive a "tag" Marching Pride sticker as a thank you. We are in DESPERATE NEED of parent volunteers for the marching band tag day tomorrow. We have availabilities for the 9:30am – 2:00pm shift and for the 11:30am-4:00pm shift. Your kids are signed up for specific shifts and have been given instructions for report times at LN. Ask your child what shifts they are signed up for and you can ask to be assigned at the same location. Please contact Sue Felli (call or text at 317-694-7674) or email at suzannefelli@yahoo.com to reserve your shift.
2. If you need to turn in your marcher’s band forms, Sue Felli will be at LN tomorrow morning from 7:30am-12:00pm to help you with this. A computer will be available if you would like to complete the form online. Sue will also be accepting payments as well.
3. A new, locally owned restaurant called HotcakesEmporium located at 11915 Pendleton Pike (http://hotcakesemporiumlawrence.com/) will graciously donate a large percentage of their total sales tomorrow to MPLT. Their hours are 6am-3pm. Please stop by for breakfast or lunch tomorrow and say you are with the band!

Parade Itinerary

Wednesday, July 4th

EAT BREAKFAST AND DRINK LOTS AND LOTS OF WATER BEFORE ARRIVING!!!!!!!

8:45am Arrive at LC band room for attendance.

9:15am We will walk over to Harrison Hill from LC in the parade block, then warm-up on a side street while waiting to step off.

9:50am Line up in Parade block.

10:00am Parade begins/MPLT steps off! We are the first unit in the parade order.

10:45am Our estimated parade end time. We will end on Franklin Road in front of Lawrence Park. We will meet briefly by the Lawrence Park pavilion for announcements and dismissal. If you have an instrument that needs to be returned to LC or need to pick up your instrument case from LC, this needs to be done before 11:30am!

REMINDERS:

1. EAT BREAKFAST AND DRINK LOTS OF WATER!!!!
2. You are responsible for your OWN equipment!
3. Parents can pick you up at either Lawrence Park or the Marsh parking lot.
4. After the parade you will need to return to LC to get your instrument case. If you wish to leave from the park, your ride will need to have your instrument case with them. Smaller instruments may want to keep their cases with their ride. Larger instruments and school owned instruments will need to plan on returning to LC after dismissal. Please plan accordingly!
5. LC will be open upon completion of our portion of the parade from 11:00am-11:30am for you to get your case if applicable.

WHAT TO WEAR:

1. Color Guard will wear 2018 MPLT Show Shirt and black shorts.
2. Winds and percussion will wear 2018 MPLT Show Shirt and khaki shorts.
3. Shirts must be tucked in!
4. The only head gear allowed will be sunglasses. No hats or bandannas.
5. Tennis shoes
6. SUNSCREEN!

Newsletter 6/26/18

Mandatory Parent Meeting:

• There will be a Mandatory Parent Meeting for MPLT parents at LN on Wednesday, 6/27/18 from 7pm – 9pm
  • The meeting will start in the LN Cafeteria with general MPLT information for ALL parents.
    • We will discuss the 4th of July Parade, MPLT Fee Schedules, and the Competition Season.
    • Important Band Camp information will be provided as well, including items students will need to bring with them each day, camp schedules, meal plan information, medical services, and more!
  • After the general meeting, we will break out into two groups where LC and LN parents will be provided information specific to their school.
    • Parents will have the opportunity to complete any necessary paperwork prior to band camp registration, including completing forms and financial agreements, signing up for volunteer opportunities, and paying fees. We will also discuss ways to utilize all of the great fundraising opportunities available to help lower your MPLT fees!
    • Make Band Camp check-in faster and your Marching Season smoother! We will have a “Fast Pass” line at Band Camp Registration for those families who have completed their required forms and made payment arrangements prior to the first day of Band Camp.

Dine to Donate at Chili Verde:

• Join other parents and families of the Marching Pride for a meal at Chili Verde, before or after the Mandatory Parent Meeting!
  • Visit anytime between 11am and 10pm on Wednesday, June 27th
    • This offer is only valid at the Chile Verde located at 7369 N Shadeland Ave.
• Mention Marching Pride at checkout (applies to carry out also), and 33% of your bill will be donated to the MPLT Fan Club! See the attached flyer for more details.

2-9 Rehearsals and Forms:

• 2-9 Rehearsals will be at LN through July 3rd
  • Are all of your student’s forms turned in?
    • All forms must be completed by Band Camp Check-In on Sunday, July 22nd. Click here to be directed to the online registration form.
  • The sports physical should be completed by 7/22/18.
  • Click here for the full summer calendar.
• Reminder: Rehearsal starts at 10am this Friday, June 29th, due to the MPLT Evening DCI Field Trip in Muncie. Estimated arrival time back at LN is 11pm.
• Students will meet at LC on July 4th at 9am and walk over to the Parade. Estimated dismissal time is 12pm, at LC.

Remind 101:

• All MPLT members are required to sign up for Remind 101 to receive important updates and messages. It is highly recommended that parents also sign up; this is the quickest way to get timely updates!

Apparel Orders:

• All MPLT apparel orders will be completed online this year. Click here to see the options available and place your order.
  • Parents who wish to purchase show shirts for the 4th of July parade will need to bring $15 cash the day of the parade to the LC Performing Arts office.
  • To receive a show shirt in time for the first football game, online orders need to be placed no later than July 28th.

Tag Day:

• MPLT Tag Day is this Saturday, June 30!
  • Shift times vary; your student will be given specific instructions on what time they are to report to LN.
• MPLT performers will visit local businesses and request donations from their customers, who will then receive a “tag” (a Marching Pride sticker) as a thank-you. Some marchers will act as traveling musicians to help “drum up” business! Join our Facebook Tag Day event page! ​
• Parent Volunteers are needed to help chaperone this event!

Color Run:

• Marching Pride of Lawrence Township is hosting a My School Color Run on Saturday, August 18, 2018 at Lawrence Park. Save the date! This is a FUN run. Times don’t matter, but how much color you can accumulate does!
  • The registration link is now live! This online registration is for the general public only.
    • LN and LC Performing Arts students must submit a paper registration form to the LN or LC Performing Arts office in order to receive the discounted $12 registration fee. Click here to download the required form.

MPLT Newsletter 6/19/18

2 – 9 Rehearsals and Forms:

• 2 – 9 Rehearsals start tomorrow, June 20th at LN

Drum Corps International Field Trip:

• Please note that rehearsal will start at 10am on Friday, June 29th, due to the DCI Field Trip that evening. A detailed trip itinerary will be available soon.
• Students are asked to wear an MPLT shirt to the DCI show. This can be a past show shirt, Pasadena shirt, spirit wear, or rookie camp shirt.
• You will need to bring LUNCH AND DINNER for rehearsal meals
• If you plan to purchase optional souvenirs or concessions, you will need to bring extra money
• Chaperones are needed! If you have a background check on file from last school year, and chaperoned for Tag Day, LTWG or LTWP, please contact Amy Svendsen at asvendsen8451@att.net or 317-294-6559.

Background Checks:

• All MPLT volunteers are required to have a background check completed annually. Please turn completed forms into your school’s Performing Arts office as soon as possible.

Steering Committee Meeting:

• The next Steering Committee Meeting will be held at LN this Thursday, June 21st at 7pm, in the orchestra room. All MPLT parents are welcome!

Mandatory Parent Meeting:

• There is a Mandatory Parent Meeting for all MPLT parents at LN on Wednesday, June 27th from 7pm – 8:30pm
• The meeting will start with general MPLT information for ALL parents, then there will be breakout groups for LN and LC specific information.

Fundraising:

• Tag Day: MPLT Tag Day will take place on Saturday, June 30th, from 8am – 4pm.
  • MPLT performers will visit local businesses and request donations from their customers, who will then receive a “tag” (a Marching Pride sticker) as a thank-you. Some marchers will act as traveling musicians to help “drum up” business!
• Color Dash Fund Run: Registration is now open for the 2nd annual MPLT Color Run, to be held at Lawrence Park on August 18, 2018
  • All LN & LC Performing Arts students are eligible to participate for a $12 discounted registration fee. The registration fee includes an event t-shirt, race bib, and color packet for the participant. All Performing Arts students who wish to participate must fill out the attached paper registration form; do not register online, or you will not receive the discounted registration rate.
  • LN & LC Performing Arts students who participate in the Color Run are also eligible to participate in the fundraiser. 100% of donations collected by each participating student will be credited towards their student account.
  • This is a community event, and we encourage family members to register for the race and join in on the fun! Click here to access the event registration page.

  Volunteers:

  • This year’s dinner will be catered by Jug’s Catering. The Presale Dinner Reservation form is available in your school’s Performing Arts office; please return your completed form and payment no later than July 24, 2018.

Important Marching Pride Announcement
2-9 Summer Rehearsal Information

2-9 Summer Rehearsals begin on Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at Lawrence North.
Please arrive early so that you are ready to rehearse at 2:00 pm.

What to bring:

• Instrument, mouthpiece, and equipment, as required.
• Dinner (refrigeration is not provided so plan accordingly – non-perishable or small insulated cooler)
• Water Jug (a Bubba Keg or similar style that will hold 1 gallon is a good idea)
• Sunscreen (you will be outside for large portions of the day)

What to wear:

• Shorts & T-Shirt (you need to be comfortable and able to move)
• Athletic shoes with good support (you will be on your feet most of the day – no flip flops or sandals)
• Socks (you will blister without them)
• Hat or Ball Cap (as appropriate)
• Bringing extra socks, a jacket and spare clothes for changes in the weather is always a good idea.

MPLT Rehearsals start one week from today! Rehearsals will be at LN June 20th – July 3rd, from 2:00pm – 9:00pm each day.

All participating students should have completed the following prior to the start of 2 – 9 Rehearsals:

1. Performer Contract should be signed and turned into your school’s Performing Arts office (FCV student forms should go to LN; BMS student forms should go to LC)
2. Online Registration Forms should be completed and submitted (If you are unable to complete your registration online, please contact your school’s Performing Arts office to get a paper copy of the registration forms ASAP)
3. Paid your initial $200 deposit: LN/FCV can pay online by visiting the LN Band website; LC/BMS can pay online by visiting the LCPAA website
   • Families in need of financial assistance are encouraged to complete the MPLT Summer Financial Assistance form attached to this email. Financial assistance forms should be submitted to your school’s Performing Arts office by Wednesday, June 27th. Financial assistance forms will not be accepted until either the student has paid their initial $200 deposit, or until a payment plan has been signed for the 2018 – 2019 school year. LN/FCV students should contact Jen Jansen at jenniferjansen@msdlt.org to set up a payment plan; LC/FCV students should contact Sue Felli at suzannefelli@msdlt.org to set up a payment plan.
4. ​​If possible, students should have their physical completed and forms turned in. Click here to access the required forms.
